The Nature of Natural Beauty Somerset

TRANSGENDER ELECTROLYSIS

I have chosen to specialise & perfect my electrolysis hair removal on trans men and women for both facial hairs and pre-operative donor/surgical areas. I am currently trained with Sterex & the BIAE (British Institute & Association of Electrolysis), which are world recognised organisations in this field of expertise and I am in the progress of carrying out my final Trans Electrolysis Training.

I feel very passionate about being able to help the major transgender life change. Beauty, it’s a concept everyone understands, yet it’s expressed differently by each individual. Your own sense of natural beauty is based on your insight into who you uniquely are. And, when you look and feel attractive, life is more vibrant and fulfilling. At times we seek assistance to enhance our appearance so we can be truly comfortable with ourselves and embrace life more fully. Just after my beauty training in 1988, I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovaries which left me feeling anything but beautiful, with excessive hair growing from my hormone imbalance. Electrolysis was a treatment that then helped me with my self-esteem and coming to terms with my condition.

Please do not hesitate to ask questions! I have a very discreet and private salon in the heart of the Somerset Levels, surrounded by fields. So you may come along to your treatments with the knowledge that you will be within a safe, friendly and welcoming environment. We are a completely Trans friendly clinic and do NOT discriminate with any of our clients or treatments.

You may also want to try out any of our other treatments which are available to all clients.

What areas can be treated?

Practically any area, apart from the inside of the nose and inner ear (mucous membrane tissue) Common areas are the face, nipples, abdomen, bikini line, fingers and toes. For men, the upper arms, around the ears, top of the nose, top of the back and around the edges of the beard where ingrown hairs are causing problems. Transgender Women often require full facial hair removal and pre-surgery donor site hair removal for Gender Reaffirmation Surgery.

If you are aiming to complete the surgical treatment you will need to have the hair fully removed from the donor site to avoid future complications. This will be discussed fully at your initial consultation and a personalised treatment plan will be designed to accommodate specific dates within your journey. Please be aware that we would be looking to have completed the full treatment outcome a minimum of 6 months prior to surgery to allow complete healing of the skin within the donor site.

How many treatments will I need?

Since everyone has a different density of hair (ie some have lots packed into a small area and others have less hair spaced out) it’s impossible to put a figure on the number of treatments you’ll need. You will certainly need to have regular appointments over a long period of time (at least a year if not more for most areas) as this is how long it takes for every hair to appear at the surface of the skin. Not all our hair is growing at the same time, and it can be quite a shock to find that those 3 or 4 hairs on your chin are actually 30 or more hairs ‘taking turns’ to grow. On top of this your hair diameter, skin sensitivity and other factors such as medication & hormone levels affect how much treatment will be needed & how much can be given in a single sitting.

You will be able to see the hair reducing throughout your treatments though, so you do not have to wait until the end to see a difference. A treatment plan will be advised (especially if there are specific dates to work to) at the initial consultation.

Please do not leave Electrolysis to the last minute – for it to work correctly in the pre-surgery donor site it is a repetitive treatment to permanently remove the hair growth cycle.

Side Effects

There is usually some redness and a little swelling resembling an insect bite straight after electrolysis. These will disappear after an hour or so. The next day your skin will be clear and shouldn’t show any signs of treatment. The exception is the body which may show tiny pinprick scabs, which will drop off naturally within a week or so. On rare occasions, you may see these tiny scabs on the face, usually when the treated hair was distorted or ingrown and hence the surrounding skin was damaged. If you notice any unexpected after-effects please make sure to mention them as sometimes it’s hard to tell how the skin will react to the first appearance.
